Tess of the D’Urbervilles has been touring Nationally since its opening at Buxton Opera house in April - from St Andrews to Dorchester!
An accomplished cast of actors who sing, play instruments and dance tell Thomas Hardy's well loved story of fair maiden Tess with a plot which keeps you the edge of your seat from its glorious springtime opening to its dramatic end amongst the brooding ruins of Stonehenge. more...
Theatreworks has now completed its 2009 tours and would
like to thank the cast, crews, production team, venues and enthusiastic
audiences who helped to make Babe the Sheep Pig and Tess of the D'Urbervilles
successful and enjoyable - from The Byre Theatre St Andrews to The
Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall!
Our opening Babe week at The Rose
Theatre Kingston back in March was made easy with the help of the fantastic
crew, exciting performance space and so many lively parties of
school children.
Highlights of 2009 include sell out performances at the
new, state-of the-art Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury, (which has
the best Green room we have ever seen), Holkham Hall - where hundreds
of children also made some super animal masks to wear during the
show and beautiful Tyntesfield - where the sun set behind our Stonehenge
as Tess walked to her sad end. The Marlow Theatre on-the-move
also provided us with a fantastic audience for Tess at the
Gulbenkian Theatre. We would also like to mention The Coliseum
Theatre Aberdare which Theatreworks has voted the friendliest Theatre
of 2009. Thanks also to the many school children who wrote some
fantastic poetry for our competition.
The company is back on the road again in April when it opens George and the Dragon at Blackpools Grand Theatre. Jane Eyre opens in May and The Importance of Being Earnest kicks off the Summer Open Air Season in July.
Tess of the D'Urbervilles returns in the autumn for a larger scale tour with a star name in the role of Tess and the festive season begins in November when Theatreworks opens its Heritage and mid scale tours of A Christmas Carol and The Snow Queen - both of which will incorporate music and puppetry. More details will be on the web site in January.
