Henry Jame's

The Turn of the Screw

A chilling ghost story by Henry James. Staged by Theatreworks - with a national reputation for transferring well loved novels successfully to the stage:

Far From The Madding Crowd 2007
"a cultural treat" The Independent.
"a production of exquisite sensitivity" The Telegraph.

Little Women 2007
"Delightfully old fashioned, with fleshed out characters, great acting and a script as clean as a pocket handkerchief. Absorbing and affecting, this production of Little Women is like getting into a warm bath" Surrey Advertiser

The Railway Children 2007
"It would take a heart of stone not to savour the sense of warmth and nostalgia that comes across throughout this engaging stage adaptation. A play with music that never flags for a moment – and a rather charming one at that." South Wales Evening Post.

Set in a brooding country mansion during the Victorian era, accompanied by a violinist and using a cast of seven to tell the "most hopelessly evil story ever written"

The leading role of the 'Governess' will be played by Leah Bracknell (Emmerdale).

A young woman obtains the post of a governess to two children abandoned by their previous carers 'Peter Quint' and 'Miss Jessel', in circumstances of some mystery. Whist taking a walk one evening she sees a strange figure on the tower. Feeling that the scene has been 'stricken with death' she begins her investigations. She struggles to confirm her belief that the children are being corrupted by the ghosts of Quint and Jessel. But are the ghosts she sees real or is she hallucinating? Is she a tragically flawed protector or a medium for evil ? If the children do need saving, is she capable of saving them?

The recent film entitled 'The Others' staring Nicole Kidman was based on this story and explored its central theme with great success.
